The ACTIVE Lab is seeking a Research Associate
With experience in the oversight of research programs related to live, virtual, and constructive training technologies and unmanned systems.
Description:
Applicant must possess an earned M.S. degree in an appropriate related field (e.g. computer engineering, computer science) from an accredited institution with 5 years experience with C++, development of 3D simulations and applications. Knowledge of existing Open Source libraries like OpenSceneGraph and communication mechanisms like HLA and JAUS are also required. Research experience involving the effects of integration of robotic devices into unmanned system platforms is required.
This position requires someone with experience in developing large software applications (more than 50K lines of code) for simulation of virtual entities, interfaces for use in experiments with human participants, and autonomous unmanned systems.

With experience in conducting human research, knowledge of human factors principles, and proficient with physiological measures utilized in experiments.
Description:
Must possess an earned doctorate degree in an appropriate related field (e.g. human factors psychology, cognitive psychology, neuroergonomics) from an accredited institution. This position requires someone with expertise in developing, managing, and conducting experiments with human participants. Experience with conducting human research, knowledge of human factors principles including theory and application, and proficient with physiological measures utilized in experiments. Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as leadership abilities. Strong research methods and statistics background are preferred. Previous presentations and publications are beneficial. Clearance is valuable.

| Robotic Simulation Programmer - Monday, December 15, 2008
The ACTIVE Lab is hiring a programmer/engineer a for full-time or part-time development position.
The programmer/engineer hired will be responsible for developing software to provide accessibility between live, virtual, and constructive simulation-based training environments that relate to unmanned vehicle systems and human performance with robotic teammates. The specific tasks will include:
• Enabling bi-directional communication between graphical simulations, numerical simulations, and performance measurement applications using the High Level Architecture (HLA)
• Enabling bi-directional communication between numerical simulations and real and simulated unmanned systems for joint participation within simulations using HLA
• Creating and modifying interfaces for simulated unmanned systems to interact with numerical simulations
• Interfacing with simulated unmanned systems sensors through the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS)
The prospective candidate must be able to work at least 20 hours per week on-site at our research facilities in the Central Florida Research Park. Extremely qualified candidates may be offered fellowships to defray the costs of tuition in addition to receiving salaried employment.
General Requirements:
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Experience in software application development with C++
• Experience using external software libraries
• Ability to meet deadlines and work within a team
• Willingness to perform tasks in multiple application areas
Experience in HLA/DIS development is beneficial (but not required) and may offset lack of requirements
A programming test will be administered and code samples are required. Candidates with limited development experience (e.g. class project experience only) may be considered if they possess an exceptional grasp of C++ or C.
